Bookworm

I recently bought two new books... Pretty Delicious is a cookbook full of lean and healthy recipes by Candice Kumai. The other book, Balancing It All by Candace Cameron Bure is her story of juggling priorities and purpose. I’m feeling smart and studious today in this outfit.

OUTFIT Mixing stripes and colored tights are fashion DOs—like these electric blue tights. A simple black cardigan and a pair of black flats are wardrobe basics every woman should have in her closet. After work, I’m ready for a visit to the library.

Black & White, Done Right

This morning at church, my friend Andrea wore black & white, and she wore it right! I love the bold contrasting stripes in this long skirt. Instead of just horizontal stripes, the fabric is also cut diagonally which adds interest and movement to it. She’s looking Cute in the Pew!

And it just so happens that part of our scripture today was, “God made clothing...” (Genesis 3:21) God—the first fashion designer!

OUTFIT With a bold skirt like this, keep your top simple. A little lace trim on a plain white shell + a basic black cardigan do the trick. She completed the look with black jewlery and black flats.

Get Organized

The key to looking put together, is getting organized! On the weekends, I get outfits ready for the following week. I hang them together with the labels. It's so easy and saves lots of time in the morning.

To make these hanging labels, cut a tag shape out of card stock, punch a hole at the top and loop a ponytail holder through. Use a sharpie to write the day of the week. The ponytail holder stretches over the hangers to keep everything nice and neat for the next day.

What a Deal!

I love a good sale as much as the next girl. And I jump up and down when JCPenny’s has their super clearnace sale! I attacked the $3.95 rack at the store and snagged this complete outfit for a whopping $8.00!

OUTFIT This geometic pattern top has faux leather detailing. It’s made to look like pajama wear - for $3.95, I’ll try that trend! The slim cut black pants are fantastic paired with my black heels. Add some black dangle earrings and I’m one happy camper.

Jean Jacket

Some things never go out of style, like this blue jean jacket. I got this one in college over 10 years ago!... now I’m showing my age. It’s just as stylish today as it was then. This jacket is one thing I will hold onto for another 10 years.

OUTFIT The biggest trend right now is paring a blue jean jacket with a dress. It works with either boots or sandals. I’m wearing it with boots today because it’s still cool outside. Add a belt the same color of the boots and I’m headed out the door.

Red Trench

Gotta have a trench coat for a windy day. Beige is classic and goes with most anything, but this red one brightens up the day.

OUTFIT This red trench coat really makes a statement when paired with all black. My leggings have a floral pattern, which adds a touch of interest to my outfit.

Bumble Bee

This outfit is inspired by my children’s love of legos and transformers - Bumble Bee to be exact. Tiny lego pieces lay around my house like land minds waiting to go off... OUCH! 

OUTFIT Black goes with everything. I paired these black dress pants with a yellow & black striped top. I added a black bib necklace to balance it out. Slip on some black pumps and I’m headed out the door... ouch, I stepped on a lego!

Fun Friday

I’m ready for the weekend, but one more work day to go. Make it a Fun Friday with some pink pants! 

OUTFIT I love pairing pink with navy blue. These pink pants look crisp next to a navy top & blazer. Gold accessories pull it all together.

Gold

Gold is really just beige with bling. Treat gold like a neutral for a dazzling outfit.

OUTFIT I paired this gold sweater with cobalt blue capris and leopard flats. The straps on my bag are gold which pulls this outfit together and really makes it sparkle.

Yellow + Navy

Today my co-worker, DeAnna, made waves with this nautical look. 

OUTFIT This ascot tie blouse features a fun tulip pattern. Dark wash jeans and a yellow cardigan complete the look. Her nautical striped wedges  & silver earrings pull it all together.

Hello Yellow

Yellow is such a happy color. It’s the color of eggs, the sun, and my CUBE! It’s such a great color when you want to add a pop of color to your outfit. 

OUTFIT This navy & white striped shift dress is a perfect canvas for adding a yellow scarf or necklace. The bright yellow really pops and adds interest, drawing your eye upward. I paired it with tall brown boots and I’m all set.

Gingham Style

No this is not “Gangnam Style” the uber popular you tube video of 2013, this is “Gingham Style.” Gingham in any color is a win, and I love it in blue with a pop of pink. This outfit is so cute, I just might start dancing... Gangnam Style. LOL.

OUTFIT I paired a blue cardigan over the gingham button down to tone it down a bit. This also gives me the perfect opportunity to wear this bright pink belt with it. Some skinny jeans complete the look, along with tall brown boots.

Green Jeans

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! If you’re not wearing green today you might get pinched. Avoid those pesky pinchers, and bring on the green.

OUTFIT Color blocking at its best! Green jeans paired with a green & black sweater is perfect for today. Add some black flats & black earrings and I’m starting to think I’m Irish. The zipper on the back of the sweater is a nice detail for an outfit that’s so simple.

Weekend Wear

This is my usual weekend attire - T-shirt & Jeans. My favorite things to wear! When I'm at home it's all about comfort, but you don't have to leave out style. You can still look put together even when your just kicking around the house. 

OUTFIT This vintage t-shirt has some paint and a few holes, but I LOVE it! The jeans are super soft and comfortable. I like to roll a cuff in them every now and then. Red canvas Toms complete this ensemble - they are my go to shoe on weekends.

The Perfect Fit

Searching for the perfect pair of jeans can be a struggle. Finding the right length, wash, color, style, etc. Being petite I find it extremely challenging. What do you do when the perfect fit seems out of reach... Keep Calm and Carry On. You’ve just got to try, try, try them on.

OUTFIT This pair of 505 Straight Leg Levis are great for work. They are the right length, fit, color and style for the cube. They go with everything! This morning I paired them with a burgundy cardigan and leopard flats. Add a neutral color scarf and cross necklace, grab my coffee and I’m headed out the door.

Leopard Love

I love wearing leopard print. I'm happy to see this trend still going strong. From belts, jeans, tops, bath robes, you name it: you can get just about anything in leopard print these days. This infinity scarf is one of my favorite leopard print accessories to wear. My little leopard beanie baby agrees. 

OUTFIT A denim button down and red jeans take a back seat to the leopard print scarf. Add a pair of shoes that match the scarf and you are styling from head to toe.

Spring Forward

Daylight Savings happened this week. The time of year when we Spring Forward by setting our clocks ahead one hour. We loose an hour of sleep but gain an hour of sunlight. It always makes me ready to break out the Spring clothes and find those shoes I put away for the winter.

OUTFIT Coral orange paired with mint blue works well together - great color combo for this Spring. I love to wear dresses. Just throw on a necklace and pair of heels and you are done. So easy. A MUST HAVE are these nude heels. They work with everything. Get a pair that matches your skin tone and it will elongate your leg and make you look taller.

Details Make a Difference

I have always loved giraffes. They are tall, where as I am short. They are naturally graceful, where as I really have to work at it. They are quiet, where as I like to be loud. So when I spotted this giraffe necklace at J. Crew, I had to purchase it. Adding a small detail like this to your outfit makes it personal and uniquely you. 

OUTFIT This silk top has a bold stripe and a camp shirt feel, making it great blouse for the cube. You can easily dress it up or down. I paired it with a navy pencil skirt I already had and nude pumps - two must have wardrobe staples.

Monday Morning

Headed out the door with a look that's professional and comfortable. This Monday morning I'm starting the week off on the right foot.

OUTFIT Dark wash jeans act as slacks, but offer more comfort throughout the day. Same idea with black flats instead of heels. If this day is busy as most Mondays are, then my feet will thank me at the end of the day. A navy and green plaid blazer over a classic white button down shirt and pearls finish this professional look. Black Belt + Bag = Done and out the door.

My Cubicle

This is my cubicle at work. It's where I spend a good portion of my day working on magazine layouts. I'm an art director by day and a wife/mommy by night. It's decorated with my favorite color—yellow. Mix yellow with shades of gray and black and you've got a space that's sophisticated & happy. 

I enjoy work and getting dressed for work. Being creative in my career helps me be creative in my closet. Coming up with new outfits is exciting, like laying out a feature story for the next issue. Be inspired to work with the pieces in your closet that you already have and find new ones to add in. Mix things up, try new trends, and see what works for you. 

I'm seeing stripes!

I'm a wife and mom of two. I love design and fashion. I enjoy being creative and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This blog is about finding everyday styles that work in my busy life. It's my attempt at looking cute in my cubicle at work as I head out the door each day, after sleeping late... again. It's about finding new outfits in my closet that are pulled together and look good. 

In my office we have a dress policy that allows us to be a little more relaxed with our attire. We can wear jeans as long as they are colored or dark wash. We can wear open toed shoes, such as sandals and peep toe pumps, but no flip-flops. Many of the outfits I wear to work, I would also wear out to dinner with friends, my kids ballgame, church, on a date with my husband, or on the weekend when I want to dress up. 

I hope this blog gives you inspiration for looking and feeling put together as you head out into the world each day. 

OUTFIT Stripes are a fun pattern to wear. They are classic and very poplar right now. You'll see lots of stripes in my wardrobe. Stripes are easy to pair with a solid color pant or skirt. I mixed this classic navy & white nautical top with a pair of olive cargo pants. I finished the look with camel colored ankle booties and bangle bracelet the same color.
